The least processed form of the cannabis plant is hemp. Hemp contains most of the CBD that people use medicinally. Hemp and marijuana come from the same plant genus, Cannabis sativa, but the two are very different.
CBD is one of 120+ natural cannabinoids that are extracted from the industrial hemp plant Cannabis Sativa L .. CBD and other natural (Phyto)cannabinoids such as CBDA, CBG, CBGA, CBN, in combination with terpenes and minerals, provide the benefits of a broad spectrum CBD product.
When a CBD oil also contains THC cannabinoids, it is a full spectrum CBD oil. In the UK THC is a controlled substance and prohibited in CBD oils.
The human body produces certain cannabinoids on its own. It also has two receptors for cannabinoids, called the CB1 receptors and CB2 receptors. CB1 receptors are present throughout the body, but many are in the brain. The CB1 receptors in the brain deal with coordination and movement, pain, emotions, and mood, thinking, appetite, memories, and other functions. THC attaches to these receptors. CB2 receptors are more common in the immune system. They influence inflammation and pain.
Researchers once believed that CBD attached to these CB2 receptors, but it now appears that CBD does not attach directly to either receptor. Instead, it seems to activate the body to produce more of its own (endo) cannabinoids.
CBD has no psychoactive properties and is not addictive. Do not use during pregnancy or breastfeeding. If you are on medication, consult your doctor before use. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
